The Alitalia flight was heading to New York from Rome when it made the mid-air emergency call and diverted to the UK's capital. A passenger plane has made an emergency landing at London Heathrow airport and been met by police. It diverted to Heathrow as reports emerged a passenger incident had taken place on board the jet.
The Boeing plane landed at Heathrow safely at around Live data on FlightRadar24 showed the plane had been cruising over France at 34,ft when it started to circle. A woman fell ill on the plane with a bug, promoting emergency services and health officials to take precautionary measures, before releasing passengers for onward travel some two hours later.
In November of last year, the airport annoucned it had seen around 28 million passengers pass through its three terminals. One witness tweeted the plane is completely blocking the runway, causing "big delays".
